[He whispers it, half to himself, then shakes his head and strives toward better thoughts.]

You're not from Earth originally, are you, Hawke? This city is not that different from my world, but it sounds as though it's different from yours.

-=blinks a little, nodding slightly.=-

I am from Earth. At least I was born there. My mother and sister and her father live there. I live in the Mountain now, on a world called Atlean.

-=sits back.=-

It is a beautiful, but wild world. The trees grow tall and the animals are free. The spirits are kind if you are kind.

A colony world, hm?

[He sounds a little hesitant, unsure if that's the term Hawke would use.]

A lot of our colonies are like that - huge worlds with small populations, more wild than tame. Still, I wouldn't trade Earth... not Earth...

But we never found races other than our own. You're lucky in that sense.

-=He ponders this. With the way Gen is using the term is correct, he's not certain it is the correct term for Atlean.=-

There are humans as well as Kirin there. The humans would not welcome me in their ranks. Or... they would welcome me too well.

[Ryuubi hasn't quite a frame of reference for the conversation. His smile is gentle and unsure.]

How can one be too welcome?

I hold a magic that I am told can break people and worlds. It is a magic that some humans would do anything to have. I was entrusted to the Kirin by my mother to prevent that.

-=he smiles all the same, looking unworried that he's telling Gen this.=-

Ahh... I see.

[His tone is genuine. He understands - this for once is not so remote from things he'd seen and experienced, himself.]

I try to think the best of my - our people, but yes, sometimes one must concede that it's hard. That there are thing we'd be better off not having in our hands...

And the Kirin were able to - contain it? Train you? You've certainly not suffered at their hands.

I do not know how it works, but I know that Shai has always been kind. I train hard, but he is fair. Roo and I are his only students, and we do our best to make him proud.

They are my family. I could not be more content.

You'll have to tell me more. Such co-existence - it's a dream of many of us. The universe seems smaller when you're alone.

You haven't ever returned to Earth?

Humans know them as Kirin, but we know each other as Faunlyn, Family. The greatest strength is our love. It is the one thing that never stops, never lessens, and only grows with more sharing. We help each other, even if we do no know each other, or are from different mountains. Our souls are forever intertwined with joy and sorrow.

-=pauses a moment, smiling softly=-

There are only a few humans who have come into such a family. My own family has been a part of Faunlyn for life times. My mother has rescued Roo when he was a child, and Jalaren when he was younger. Even though that was life times ago, Kirin do not forget.

Faunlyn. [He tests the word - he has an aptitude for languages, and catches its particular sound quickly.] Family... and you can share all this, though you are, physically, mentally, still human? What a gift... [He shakes his head in amazement.]

Though still, I would not give up Earth. I'd travel far, see, learn - but I would come back to Earth. Perhaps it's a matter of how one grows up. Home remains home.

My home is where my heart lies. Even if my mother lives on Earth, her heart is in Fire Mountain. One day, she too will go home.no

[It's an interesting thing to contemplate, though he may be a bit uneasy as he speaks.]

If you had a choice - would you have chosen to be born Faunlyn?

Would anything be different? The Ancestors have a path for us all. We must walk it. If it is a hundred lifetimes that I am human, and must walk each time to where my home is, I will do it.

Though, it would be easier to be Kirin at birth, it would not increase or lessen the family I have today.
