[She walks up to the familiar home, looking for Hawke and his gorgeous abs, a homemade muffin in her hand.]

Makoto... you have brought something?

Mmhm! It's a muffin. Fresh too. I thought you might like it.

[She holds it out as soon as she makes it to him, smiling back.]

I've gotten so used to making food for so many people that sometimes I make too much.

A muffin? It is like bread?

-=He takes it and splits it in half, offering some back to her.=-

You sound like Sha'hira. Always making so much food.

A little. Like a mix of cake and bread.

[She watches him split it, smile as wide as can be. At least, one would think that until he hands her back a piece, and somehow it grows even larger. She accepts it taking a moment to smell it.]

Sha'hira? Someone you know from back home? She must have had a lot of people to take care of too.

-=He too indulges in taking in the scent.=-

Mmm. Sha'hira is the healer for the mountain. I lived with her before with Sohl and the others. She is like a mother to me.

-=There's a smirk before he takes a bite of the muffin.=- She also believes I do not eat enough.

She sounds like a wonderful woman. [She nods as he takes a bite, obviously enthused that he's eating it.] So who knows? Maybe she's right.

Mayhaps. -=He's happy with food, none the less.=-

Come sit with me here? -=heads on over to the fire.=-

[She nods, still smiling like a kid with candy as she walks up to his side by the fire.]

I'm really glad you like it. [A gesture toward the muffin.] I can always make more if you'd like.

I would like that very much. -=smiles some as he picks the muffin here and there. Hawke looks at the muffin for a moment and then back up to Makoto, peering through his hair.=-

Usagi told me once that she believe love can only happen with two people. Do you... believe the same?

[She takes a few bites of her own, glowing at the compliment. Though at his question, she stops, smile waning.]

You mean ... couples?

-=Nods slightly. It may be uncomfortable, but it's a topic that should be addressed.=-

My people... I... believe differently.

[It is. Usagi was worried about it. So she takes a deep breath and presses on, awkwardly rolling the remains of her muffin in her hands.]

Back home, most people think that they have a soulmate, another person who's a perfect match for them. One day, they'll find each other, and they'll know right away that they were meant for each other. I'd like to think that too.

What do you believe?

-=He takes his time answering, watching her hands before drawing his eyes to her face.=-

It is true. There are times when two souls are pulled together, and the feeling is strong. It is the kind of feeling and draw that brings souls together no matter how many lives they have turned. -=smiles warmly.=- I know this well. I have seen it happen in my own family, to my own mother and the High Healer of Fire Mountain.

I also believe that love should not be limited to just one other person. Love is the greatest gift you can give to another. It can only make someone stronger. That is important.

Just like I could never choose between my friends. [She returns his smile with a small one of her own, about 60% sure this is the "Let's just be friends" speech.]

-=He nods again, shifting slightly.=-

Love is strong. It brings us together. I know you have not Danced. Taken on a First. For humans it would mean to have sex with another. I had taken my First five turns ago. -=He smiles slightly.=- One day, you will find someone to be your First. If what you believe love to be truth for you means you no longer with to be with me, I understand.

-=He bows his head slowly.=- I do not wish for you to change in thought that would make me happy.

Of course love is strong. Of course it's important. It's one of the most important things in the world. [She closes her eyes, tilting her head longingly.] But what's even more important than that is to stick by the people you care about.

I don't think it would feel right to have a boyfriend who has his eyes on other people, but... [She looks up at him, head still tilted allowing her to see his face even though it's bowed. She tries not to look upset. It's really not fair to him.] Eating muffins by the fire like this, there's nothing wrong with that, right?

-=He had a feeling that this is what the outcome would be. He still smiled, but there was sadness in his eyes. For him, the bond of people and love are the same thing.=-

It is not wrong. -=He looks up, pulling his hair away from his face.=-

[Mako has platonic love and romantic love completely separated in her books, probably for her own sanity. Friends score higher than love interests on her priorities list.

When he apologizes, she's quick to shake her head, frantically waving her hands, palms facing him, back and forth to illustrate that's not what she means.]

Don't apologize for something like that! Please! [That makes it worse.] I don't want you to be anybody but you!

-=Her reaction makes him smile, sit up more and silently agree.=-

You are a good girl, Makoto.

A-Ah. [There goes that blush again as she tries to keep in control.] I've got to be, right? The girls count on me.

That is very important.

Mm. [She's quiet for a moment while she plays with the muffin some more.]
